HackMIT '21  Mentor and Judging Application
NOTE: All judging will take place virtually. Most mentoring will also be virtual. Only sponsored mentors who have spoken with their sponsor rep or MIT affiliates on CovidPass can mentor in-person.

We are looking for mentors and judges for HackMIT 2021! This year, we're hosting our first ever hybrid hackathon, with opportunities for hackers to participate both in-person and virtually. You are eligible to mentor and/or judge if you're NOT a high schooler or an undergraduate student.

What you'll do as a mentor: We need your help to guide our hackers and help them work through the problems they hope to solve throughout the event. Mentors will select shifts during which they will respond to hackers' help requests, ranging from industry-specific questions to helping beginners build their first web app. Using HelpQ, a mentoring system developed by HackMIT, mentors will be able to take students off a virtual queue to answer their questions.

What you'll do as a judge: Judges will be responsible for viewing and selecting the most extraordinary projects from our HackMIT 2021 submissions on Sunday, September 19th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm EDT. We are asking judges to commit at least one hour of their time towards this event. Using Ballot, a scheduled judging platform developed by HackMIT, judges will rank projects they are scheduled to view in 10-minute time slots to determine which projects will be eligible to win our top prizes. Our judges will also be required to attend a mandatory orientation session on Saturday, September 18th (time TBD) to familiarize themselves with our judging criteria and platform.

IMPORTANT: If you commit to a time slot, it is incredibly important that you show up on time as hackers will be waiting to be judged as soon as their time slot starts!

By becoming a mentor or judge, you'll not only have the opportunity to see incredible projects that may go on to become the best startups in the technology world, you'll also receive the full benefits of attending HackMIT, including access to workshops, tech talks, and other auxiliary events!
